Gateshead youngsters can keep fit the fun way thanks to new play equipment.

Children living in Kibblesworth can now make the most of newly installed play apparatus, designed to test their agility and endurance.

Members of Kibblesworth’s Youth Club worked with registered charity Tyne & Wear Play Association, The Gateshead Housing Company and Gateshead Council to develop the site, which includes overhead ladders, rowing apparatus, push-up bars and a cycle station.

Catherine Hopkins, Housing Manager from The Gateshead Housing Company, tested her fitness recently with local children.

She said: “This isn’t your typical playground with swings and slides, as its gym-like feel is a more modern approach to outside play.

“We all know the benefits of keeping fit and healthy, and by targeting our younger residents we aim to instil the importance of fitness into their mindset for years to come.”

The new kit, installed near the entrance of the existing play area, is part of the ‘Vitality’ range from playground company Proludic.

The play area project is part of a wider development that has transformed Kibblesworth over the last two years.

Gateshead Council has contributed the land to enable the scheme to go ahead.
