Estates look to branch out

Local residents have made an ‘extree-mely’ big difference to several Gateshead estates. Dozens of schoolchildren and local groups helped The Gateshead Housing Company and Gateshead Council to plant a mini forest of trees in Birtley, Springwell, Wrekenton and Kibblesworth. Residents of a south Gateshead estate recently took part in a free family fun day. Kibblesworth’s Autumn Fair at the village’s Millennium Centre, attracted more than 200 residents and was officially opened by the Deputy Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Jack Graham MBE. Mosaic pieces together Kibblesworth’s colourful history

The history of Kibblesworth has been colourfully depicted through a series of mosaics, created from a community art project supported by the housing company and local councillors. The eight panels each feature an element of the village’s heritage – from coal mining to the recently-built Millennium Centre. Pupils from Kibblesworth Primary School, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, helped create the mosaics with the school now displaying the finished mosaics.
