The Gateshead Housing Company and its charitable partner Keelman Homes recently made the shortlist of a prestigious video awards programme for their regeneration of Kibblesworth in south Gateshead.

Now in their seventh year, The Northern Housing Consortium (NHC) Silver Screen Awards celebrated some of the most outstanding and innovative work carried out by housing organisations and local authorities in the North of England.

The programme invited NHC members, who represent more than 3.5 million people, to use film to showcase their best and innovative projects across three categories.

This year the categories were:

  • Tenant Enterprise
  • Regeneration – which the housing company and Keelman Homes were shortlisted for
  • Building Community Capacity.

Keelman Homes was set up in 2009 to enable the development of nearly 150 new homes in Kibblesworth.

It completed this scheme with the support of overall site constructor Keepmoat Homes, The Homes and Communities Agency and Gateshead Council.

Keelman Homes is currently working in partnership with Gateshead Council and other development partners to deliver over 40 affordable units across a range of sites in the Borough over the next 12 months.

The Northern Housing Consortium is this year celebrating 40 years as one of the country’s leading housing membership organisations.

With the face of social housing having changed so dramatically in the past four decades, the NHC has played an important role in making sure the voice of those living and working in the North is heard nationally.
